Basic Information
La Zagaleta is an exclusive residential area situated at the foot of the Ronda Mountains, in a beautiful Mediterranean forest setting with breathtaking views of the Alboran Sea, Africa and Gibraltar. In terms of privacy, security and exclusivity, it ranks among the best resorts in Europe. Located just 10 minutes from Marbella.
La Zagaleta offers two 18-hole golf courses. The Old Course, which is only open to residents of La Zagaleta and the New Course, which can be played.
The New Course was designed to blend perfectly with nature. The truly hilly course, reminiscent of a mountain hike, is lined with lush vegetation, rocky escarpments, pools and it's no secret that the oasis of calm is occasionally broken by the presence of pheasants, deer or mouflon. The course offers beautiful obstacles and doglegs, shorter and narrower fairways, topped with undulating greens.
A clubhouse and restaurant overlooking the surrounding countryside and the adjacent lake is a beautiful capstone or the beginning of an extraordinary golf experience.

Our review
If you want a truly unique experience, we certainly recommend playing La Zagaleta New Course.
On arrival, a wave of excitement will rise through your veins at the entrance gate, where police security will ask you to check in and verify that you are on the guest list. They won't let you in without this step. You are then given a GPS locator in your car and follow the marked paths, which must be strictly followed, down the valley to the clubhouse. There you will be met in all kindness by the friendly staff who will bring you a buggy marked with your name, prepare your golf bag, water and a pack of extra balls. That's because golfers familiar with the area know that there will be no shortage of lost balls. After all, you'll get a taste of this on hole 1, where you'll be thrilled by the view of the beautiful valley, but your initial enthusiasm may be spoiled by the detail of the green, which is across the ravine on the other side. After all, there are more such spots to come on your journey around the New Course. There is very little traffic on the course as tee times are very limited. So you can enjoy the game to the full in complete privacy, enjoying the surrounding landscape or thinking about your next shot.
The course is very technical, and on many holes you sometimes have no choice but to employ a risk/reward strategy, but we believe you will enjoy every hole you successfully complete.
